New in Asheville for this holiday season is Winter Lights
at the North Carolina Arboretum. It opened November 22 and runs through January
4, 2015. Visitors walk through a botanical Christmas wonderland with thousands of lights
in the gardens.
The Arboretum worked with Jerry Stripling, former
designer and manager of holiday decorations for Walt Disney World®, to create a
very magical experience. This new light show definitely enhances the natural
beauty of the gardens and landscape. Also enjoy local art for sale in the gift
shops, music by a DJ in the Courtyard, and fire pits to create your own
s'mores. The Savory Thyme Café offers food and beverages, including a hot
chocolate and coffee bar.
The light show is open every night, 6-10 PM. Advance tickets are required. Prices are
- Individual (12 years or older) $18
- Children (ages 5 to 11) $16
- Children age 4 & under FREE
The North Carolina Arboretum is in south Asheville. From
I-26, take Exit 33 and follow NC 191 South for two miles to the entrance on
right.
